This is an exciting new role at Neon Caffeine, and you’ll play an integral part in the future growth of the business. You’ll be involved in seeking out new business
opportunities, creating engaging content for our website and social media channels, and contributing to the day-to-day operations of the company.
Duties will include:
General administration including responding to emails, calling clients and prospects, and managing our team task list
Researching potential clients and supporting marketing campaigns to attract new business
Creating content for our websites, blogs, and social media channels
Undertaking research for client projects
Providing support to the wider team for live client projects (e.g. virtual events)
Supporting the launch of our new (second) company, which will include sales, marketing, administration, and financial administration tasks.
We believe in providing opportunities for our staff to develop new skills, supporting personal growth for their future careers. In this role you will be empowered to undertake duties which will support you in gaining practical experience.
We’re looking for someone with a keen interest in developing sales and marketing experience. You will have a desire to develop your communication skills (verbal and written). Your enthusiasm is important to us and in return we can support and develop you. If you can bring an attention to detail to this role, you're off to a good start.
You will learn marketing, social media, and communication skills, alongside general business skills to give you a good foundation in business administration.
In this role you will also develop skills for a foundation in business development and sales.
We're a small team and established the business with a model of working from home, even before the Covid-19 restrictions. As we look to the future we aim to have regular face to face team meetings, in addition to the digital methods of staying in touch.
Who we are and what we do
We're a social media and digital marketing consultancy, offering services including social media audits, strategy development, social listening, and training. We launched in 2019 and have recently celebrated our second anniversary. The company is growing, and we’re excited to welcome a new member to the team in the coming months.
We primarily work with clients in the higher education sector, including the University of Glasgow, University of Southampton, and University of Salford. We also undertake pro bono work for charity, and currently our time there is dedicated to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
As the company grows, so do our services and in recent months we have started working with influencers. We’re helping them to build and protect their social media presence.
We also co-organise a 24-hour live global social media conference for the education sector, working with a partner just like our own company. The conference, All Day All Night, is entering its second year and draws attendees from all over the world.
Skills and experience
The Kickstart scheme is all about providing young people with the opportunity to gain experience and develop new skills. Here at Neon Caffeine we see skills and experience as equal to education. Here are just some of the skills we're on the look out for in candidates for this role.
Good writing and communication skills, and an ability to listen
A keen interest in social media and its use in engaging online audiences
Experience of creating content on TikTok would be advantageous in this role, although not essential
Strong attention to detail
Ability to be self motivated and accountable for your own work
Previous experience of office administration.
A desire to make a difference, we strongly value helping our clients to achieve more.
Hours and pay
Flexible working is important to us, and we're open to the best working pattern to help you achieve your best in this role.
The role is for 6 months at 25 hours per week, paid at National Minimum Wage. We're suggesting working these hours Monday to Thursday, undertaken between 8am and 6pm (depending on whether you are an early riser or function best later in the day). Other working patterns can be discussed with the successful candidate.
Employability training will be provided in partnership with Business West using a package of support through their South West training partners. This will include training in workplace practices like attendance, timekeeping, teamwork,
communication, travelling to work along with CV preparation, and job application and interviewing skills. You will also have the opportunity to join a peer to peer network of other Kickstart employees in the South West along with introductions to sector specific organisations including creative employees in the South West.
Alongside this you will have a mentor within the company to help you make the most of the Kickstart role and guide you through your employment with the organisation.
Within the company you will be supported by the Managing Director and Founder, who will also act as your line manager. You will receive training on the digital tools used by Neon Caffeine, and support you developing skills relevant to this role.
We all work remotely and have done since the business started, so home working is something we're used to. You'd be joining our remote team, although plans are afoot for regular team meetings face to face once restrictions permit.
Rob is the founder of Neon Caffeine and has worked in the higher education sector since 2002. He's also an Accredited Practitioner and Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (MCIPR); and a Member of the Institute of Data and Marketing (M IDM).
Rob also volunteers for Guide Dogs as a puppy raiser, so our additional member of the team is currently a yellow Labrador called Radnor. He’s 7 months old and loves to join in at team meetings.
Morgan joined the Neon Caffeine team in June 2020. Starting as a summer intern, he has stayed on as a member of the team. He’s in his final year at UWE Bristol studying Economics with his sights set on a masters in international business. He's also President of the cycling club at UWE.
